Welcome to Zach’s Garden
Many people don’t realize how easy it is to grow some of your own produce and supplement your grocery shopping with a short trip to your windowsill. In Zach’s Garden, you’ll find stories and information about the fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other plants I grow year-round, indoors and out. The benefits of container gardening aren’t strictly limited to growing food; plants clean the air, help maintain comfortable humidity levels, brighten any room, and help make your house a home.
Join the conversation!Throughout Zach’s Garden, you can learn about my experiences with container gardening, but I can learn even more from you, so please ask any questions or share your stories in the comments section after each write-up. Do you have a specific how-to question about getting started, or are you having trouble choosing what to grow?
About my gardenI live in Michigan, in USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5B, which means our outdoor growing season is on the shorter side. That’s why everything I grow is in containers, perfect for the apartment dweller, but also to extend the growing season significantly. With our long winters, many people don't realize that you can keep things like dwarf citrus trees growing year-round by bringing them indoors before the first frost. I hope this site inspires you to try out your green thumb.
